This form is called "Rojo" (Red) by locals.

There also exists a form called "Blanco" (White).

The white form is not found sympatrically with the red form, but the habitats are in the same area and both habitats belong to the Río Ampiyacu-drainage.

So far, one of only two species of the genus, in which larvofile mouthbrooding has been recognized.

Synonyms

Apistogramma sp. "Maulbrüter" / "Mouthbrooder" (Red color form)

Apistogramma sp. "Glaser" (Trade name)

Distribution and habitat

I collected this species in a small creek entering a tributary to the Río Ampiyacu, Pebas-area, District of Loreto, Peruvian Amazon, in October 2006.

The water ( at the end of the dry season):
pH: 4,81, Conductivity: 26 microSiemens/cm, T: 28,9 °C

Water parameters

PH : 4,5 - 6,5
ppm : Low

My Experience

Easy to keep.

Breeding

Easy to breed.

Because of the way they breed, the numbers of eggs/fry are low.
