Taxonomy

This species was moved from the genus Nannacara to the new taxon Ivanacara by Römer and Hahn (2006).

Synonyms

Nannacara adoketa

Distribution and habitat

So far only known from the middle and upper parts of the Río Negro system in Brazil, and in the upper parts in Colombia, where it inhabits blackwater streams inside the dark rainforest.

I collected it in eastern Colombia in December 2018:

Water parameters

PH : 4 - 6
ppm : As low as possible

My Experience

Could be deadly aggressive towards each other and against other fish...
In the wild they are always found in very shallow water, and there no aggression have been observed. So keeping them in quite shallow water in aquariums is definitely worth a try.

Breeding

Very soft water and low pH seem to be necessary,.... and a combination of a male and a female that works.
Many pairs seem to need several attempts before they manage to bring the eggs to three/four weeks old freeswimming fry.
Here the wild pair from Colombia 2018 did very well on their first attempt, approximately 70 fry grow up:
