Taxonomy
This species was moved from the genus Nannacara to the new taxon Ivanacara by Römer and Hahn (2006).
Distribution and habitat
So far only known from the middle and upper parts of the Río Negro system in Brazil, and in the upper parts in Colombia, where it inhabits blackwater streams inside the dark rainforest.
I collected it in eastern Colombia in December 2018:

My Experience
Could be deadly aggressive towards each other and against other fish...
In the wild they are always found in very shallow water, and there no aggression have been observed. So keeping them in quite shallow water in aquariums is definitely worth a try.
Breeding
Very soft water and low pH seem to be necessary,.... and a combination of a male and a female that works.
Many pairs seem to need several attempts before they manage to bring the eggs to three/four weeks old freeswimming fry.
