Distribution and habitat
7 fish were collected in Peru in October 2005, and were brought home to Norway.
They were found near the village of Bretaña at the Rio Ucayali, 330 km on the rivers from Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon.
The habitat was a restwater pool / oxbow-lake.
The water: pH: 6.74, Conductivity: 38 microSiemens/cm, Temperature: 30.2 °C
pH: 6.74, konduktivitet/elektrisk ledningsevne: 38 microSiemens, temperatur: 30.2 °C.
My Experience
- They eat everything offered, but love newly hatched BBS
- They don't each (much) fry of dwarfcichlids ( but the dwarfs eat their eggs if they fall of the leaf they are laid on)
- They are not afraid of dwarf cichlids
- They don't bother other fish/species
- They can take big changes in water-parameters
Almost the ideal fish in a dwarf-cichlid-tank!
Breeding
In my tanks, they breed immediately when pH moves under 5,5,
One male might breed with several females, so the cluster of eggs could reach more than 100.
The fry need infusoria in the beginning, after a couple of weeks they take newly hatched artemia (BBS).
