Taxonomy
Apistogramma-nijsseni-group
Distribution and habitat
Small jungle creeks with blackwater, in an area east of Jenaro Herrera, Peru.
I collected this species in October 2011. Pictures from the habitat above.
The water:
pH: 5,3 Conductivity: 5 (!) MicroSiemens/cm Temperature: 25,1 °C
Living syntopic with hatchetfish, A. agassizii, Moenkhausia, Copella and other Characins
My Experience
This species has an amazing potential for aggression!
Be sure to keep them in fairly large tanks, and keep dither fish. Under such conditions they seldom show seriously aggression.
Breeding
Breeds easily as long as the water is acidic and soft. Normally very monogamous.
